By Bipin Sharma

Having etched his name in the books of history as one of the most outstanding philanthropists of all times, Dr SPS Oberoi, also known as “Saviour Singh” has been relentlessly playing the role of a Champion “Corona Frontline Hunger Warrior” ever since the lockdown was enforced in the country. One of his key mission being to feed the empty stomachs especially for the ones who have been inept in making both ends meet.

His organization has earmarked an overall budget of Rs 20 crores for distribution of ration, masks, sanitizers, PPE Kits, Ventilators and other allied medical equipments. From day one of the Lockdown i.e. on 25th March’ 2020, Dr Oberoi and his team of passionate crusaders have been on ground zero playing the role of good Samaritans on a war footing note to supervise the distribution of essential goods and medical equipments to people in need as well as to the civil hospitals, medical colleges and the police personnel’s. The team of diligent crusaders go about executing their relief works in an extremely organized manner. Adhering to all the norms of the social distancing, the team undertakes all due safety measures while delivering the essential goods at different nooks and corners.

Through his International Charitable Trust named “Sarbat Da Bhala” which means “Welfare of All, Dubai based Indian businessman Dr SPS Oberoi has accomplished countless humanitarian missions since the last three decades. Over the years, Philanthropy has become a way of life for him. Oberoi shot to fame when he gave the blood money for saving the lives of 17 Indian youths that had been handed the death sentence by a Sharjah civil court for murdering a Pakistan based man some years ago. Ever since, he has been instrumental in saving many lives from the gallows. His noble deeds have earned him the sobriquet “Saviour Singh”,  and he is widely regarded as a Divine Emissary. He was awarded the world’s first ever Causa Grand PhD in Philanthropy by the International University of Fundamental Studies, Russia.

His Trust has undertaken extraordinary initiative in providing ration supply, N 95 masks, and sanitizers to the poor and needy ones during the entire period of the Corona Lockdown.

Besides, Dr Oberoi’s Trust has provided PPE kits, ventilators, masks and sanitizers to district hospitals and police personnel’s in Punjab and elsewhere.

Dr Oberoi may have accomplished numerous milestones in his illustrious career, but his relentless quest for undertaking humanitarian endeavors remains unchanged. He remains still as passionate and committed towards playing the role of a Samaritan as he was, when he began his philanthropic journey three decades ago.

With time advent, Dr Oberoi has only bettered his phenomenal feat of humanitarian works. He has never been deterred by the magnitude of a challenge instead he has perpetually seen an opportunity in adversity, and this is what really sets him apart from others. Corona Pandemic being no exception to the rule, Dr Oberoi got going from Day 1, and ever since, he has been on a sole Mission to cater to the basic needs of those in need, suffering and distress. As luck would have it, he was in India when the lockdown was announced, and he regards this as a “blessing”, as it provided him a splendid opportunity to be the Torchbearer, and personally supervise the day to day relief and humanitarian works.

The routine charitable works of the Sarbat Da Bhala Trust have not been hampered due to the onslaught of Corona, as an altogether separate budget has been allocated for that.

Sarbat Da Bhala Trust has been working for the last many years towards the rehabilitation of widows, destitute and the orphans, the Divyangs, and the EWS strata of the society. Besides, the Trust has been lending pivotal support to the different drug de-addiction centres in Punjab, the financially deprived schools, colleges and vocational institutions through the monthly pension schemes. The Trust has also provided infrastructural support to various prisons of Punjab and installed water purifiers in many prisons in India to ensure safe drinking water for the inmates. The Trust has also constructed a School for Special Needs Children near Patiala that caters to many students. Most important, the Trust has been instrumental in bringing back home the bodies of 110 people so far, who had lost their lives in the Gulf.

Dr SPS Oberoi has always made Humanity Proud with his remarkable contributions, and all the more now, in these trying and turbulent times of the Corona Pandemic.

He is not only the Pride of the Sikh fraternity, but in fact, the Pride of the entire Nation today.
