Sharing more about his aspirations and future vision, Asheesh says, “My Mission is to serve the humanity and the Nation. We are all dreaming of a “New India” which is possible only through sheer hard work, vision, passion, innovation & transformation. My hero and Idol in life has always been my Late father Sh. Sushil Choudhery. He was jailed during the Emergency and had played a critical role in support of revival of democracy in those times. It’s a matter of immense pride to recall some of his most outstanding works that he accomplished during his stint as a two term MLA. The long Nallah stretching from National Park- Vikram Vihar to Lajpat Nagar 3 which had been a bone of contention for the local residents was covered with the painstaking efforts of my father. Works like the re-development of Amar Colony Market with beautiful lights and footpath, High mast lights in colony parks, Development of Senior Citizens Room, Resolving the ageless water crisis, Replacing of old Transformers with new ones for resolving the grave issue of long power cut problem and more importantly, replacing the old sewer lines with new ones for addressing the issue of sewage logging and backflow. It has been an outcome of all such splendid and tireless developmental works that my father enjoys a special place in the hearts of countless people. It is incumbent on the part of every citizen to play his or her role in the progress of our country. We are pledged towards transforming India into an “AtmaNirbhar” nation and a “Global Super Power”. The dream should be to revive the yesteryear era when India was nicknamed the “Land of the Golden Sparrow” (Sone ki Chidiya). Borrowing a leaf out of the ageless adage, ‘Actions speak louder than words’, I have always believed that it is the actual work on ground zero that will help win people’s hearts. Ye janta hai sab jaanti hai. I also wish to mention that I am a true secular liberal minded person, one who respects everyone’s religious beliefs and practices. Having said that, I must convey that I am a proud “Sanatani” who is eagerly awaiting the completion of the Shree Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The distinctive identity of our great country lies in its rich ancient heritage, customs and traditions.”
An ardent admirer of PM Narender Modi, Asheesh keeps a close tab on the various policies and initiatives of the government, and never likes to miss an opportunity to do a critical analysis of the same. It was a momentous occasion to cherish when Delhi Customs Brokers Association (DCBA) celebrated their Golden Jubilee on 18 December’ 2022 at Stellar Resorts, NH-8, New Delhi. The grand event was graced by the presence of distinguished luminaries from the Logistics Industry and the Customs Department.
Notable among those who attended the event included S.K Rehman, Principal Commissioner of Customs- (Preventive-Customs Zone Delhi), Zubair Riaz Kamili, Commissioner of Customs (Airport & General), senior Customs Officers, Officers from different Participating Government Agencies (PGAs) and various trade associations.
The key highlight of the event was the felicitation of Industry Achievers and Icons who had brought laurels to the nation with their unparalleled contribution in the logistics field. The milestones achieved by the Delhi Customs Brokers Association were enumerated during the course of the event.
In an exclusive chat, Puneet Jain, President DCBA said, “The journey of DCBA from 1972 till date has been truly phenomenal, and is an inspiration for all of us, thus we wanted to celebrate the special occasion with a grand event. I extend my sincere gratitude to former Presidents and all fellow members of our fraternity for guiding me constantly in making DCBA a more robust and efficient body. Our organization contributes significantly to giving a boost to country’s economy. As the present President, I am pledged to carry forward the good works of my predecessors and previous committee members for the betterment of the trade. The focus of the present government all these years has been on introducing new trade facilitation measures and faster augmentation of logistics infrastructure. Ever since it came into being in the year 1972, the DCBA has played an exemplary role in not only making the process of customs clearance much more convenient and less time consuming, but more importantly played a sterling role in suggesting new reforms that have subsequently accepted by various governments to incorporate in their new policy formulation. It is a matter of immense pride that the government gives due importance to organizations like DCBA before formulating or introducing any new policy pertaining to the Logistics trade. Delhi Customs Brokers Association working has been in absolute compliance with supporting the government’s theme of “Ease of doing Business”. The 50 years’ journey has been an eventful one with numerous milestones as well as learning’s for the members of DCBA.”
Devendra Singh Bhadoria, Honorary Secretary, DCBA shared, “DCBA has been hosting events at regular intervals to propagate the importance of Logistics in giving a boost to economy, which in turn promotes the idea of “New India” and aiding in the process of making India a VishwaGuru. The hallmark of our events has also been our focus on empowering the different sections of the society especially the talented and the unsung heroes. As far our expectations from the government are concerned, it has been our long impending demand that the ruling dispensation must empower our existence and contribution with an apt validation so that we are treated like any professional organization namely the Bar Council of India etc. Also, we seek appreciation as frontline warriors like police and para-medical force for our services during any natural calamity or pandemic situation like COVID-19 to make the logistics services unhindered. We are grateful to the government for providing us two platforms namely Customs Clearance Facilitation Committee (CCFC) and Port Trade Facilitation Committee (PTFC). These two platforms are there for addressing the grievances of the customs brokers.”
It was a watershed moment when PM Narendra Modi recently launched the National Logistics Policy (NLP) in the capital. National Logistics Policy has enormous potential for development of infrastructure, expansion of business and increasing employment opportunities. The goal of the National Logistics Policy is to lower the cost of logistics from its current 14% of GDP to less than 10% by 2022 despite the highly fragmented nature of India’s logistics industry. It would definitely help the end-to-end logistics operation, and especially benefit the agro/rural economy of the country with a sound logistics infrastructure.
Speaking on the occasion, Zubair Riaz Kamili, Commissioner of Customs (Airport & General) said, “DCBA is celebrating their journey of 50 years, while the Custom Act that gave license to Custom Brokers to operate has recently celebrated its 60th Anniversary, so one can very well gauge the deep bond between the Customs Department and the DCBA. We expect the DCBA to fully cooperate with us, and similarly the Customs Department will extend all their support to DCBA in terms of facilitation, and ensuring that we continuously improvise our custom business procedures so as to remove the red tape. We will build Anonymous Interface so that there is no scope of any complaint or harassment. DCBA are our equal partners in the journey to automate and bringing about transparency and clean administration.”
Informed S.L Sharma, Former Vice President, DCBA and Chairman, Skyways Air Services Pvt Ltd, “Since the custom clearing business was not organized in the 1970s, it was strongly felt to bring the various custom brokers under one umbrella, and thus DCBA was formed to make the sector not only more organized, but also to address the various lacunas existent at that time. It was the late Col J.H Chibber, a visionary par excellence who deserves the credit for bringing DCBA to life as he was certain that bringing all Custom Brokers under one ambit would help bring about uniformity as well as more transparency. He was also the first President of the erstwhile Delhi Customs Clearing Agents Association (now Delhi Customs Brokers Association). It will be no exaggeration to describe the 50 year existence of DCBA as a splendid journey as we have grown in stature and played a vital role in giving a boost to the country’s economy. From being known as Custom House Agents (CHA) in the earlier times to carving a niche as Custom Brokers, the DCBA has gone from strength to strength over the years. Starting with a handful of 22 members in 1972, the DCBA presently boasts of having a strength of close to 1200 members. We expect the government to do a closer monitoring of the custodian handling of import and export goods. Though custom brokers are grappling with copious issues due to the new business ecosystem pertaining to customs broking business, the new committee is committed to initiate more activities towards enhancing the skills and domain knowledge of its members to cope with any changing scenario to sustain.”
S. Ramakrishna, Past President, DCBA and Past Chairman, FFFAI added, “Akin to the present faceless system of income tax assessment, the Customs Clearance too has become a faceless assessment, and this is being hailed as a big reform as it will rid the system of corruption. The newly incorporated faceless assessment of customs clearance has been duly lauded by PM Narendra Modi who has always laid stress on making the system more transparent and corruption free. The Golden Jubilee event of DCBA @ Stellar was successful in promoting the best of what DCBA had been doing for the last 50 years, thus paving the way for the opening of new frontiers for all those associated with the event. A win-win state for all the stakeholders that have pledged to show the real prowess and might of “New India“.”
P.S Atree, Past President, DCBA observed, “Logistics being an important component of commerce, both the government and the key stakeholders need to give it the top most priority, and thus work in consonance. There can’t be any ambiguity about the fact that smooth facilitation measures hold the key to enhancing the overall image of Logistic sector on the global arena. In sync with the vision of the present ruling dispensation that has been emphasizing on consolidating the Logistics Sector, we believe that it has been the outcome of our collective efforts and timely suggestions that led to inspiring the government to formulate a National Logistics Policy (NLP) which is aimed at enhancing efficiency of the logistics ecosystem in India. It will ensure “quick last mile delivery”, end transport related challenges, in addition to saving time and money of the manufacturers, and preventing wastage of the agro products. The resulting improvement in the coordination will lead to the desired speed in the sector. Completion of 50 years of our existence is indubitably a momentous occasion for the entire custom broker fraternity. In the last one decade especially, the DCBA has spearheaded many incredible initiatives. We have gone an extra mile to provide a sturdy platform to our fellow members which in turn has helped DCBA carve a niche for itself in the sphere of logistics. The DCBA swiftly adopted the 24×7 working model to facilitate round the clock custom clearance business. The Customs Clearing Agents played a pivotal role during the Covid outbreak when they worked 24×7 as tireless Crusaders on Ground Zero to ensure timely clearance and smooth facilitation without any glitches.”
Rajesh Verma, Vice Chairman, Federation of Freight Forwarders’ Associations in India (FFFAI) and President Ludhiana Customs Brokers Association said, “Golden Jubilee celebrations of DCBA indubitably marks a new era for logistics in India. Inspired by the current wave in our country about “Sabka Prayas”, Custom Brokers have been in the forefront to contribute their bit towards economy. Much like the “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” being celebrated all over the country, it is remarkable the DCBA is celebrating their 50 years of existence so bringing to fore the achievements of their former Presidents and other key members. The key aim was not only to announce India’s arrival on the global logistics arena, but also to showcase to the outside world how India has actually been a Torchbearer in the logistics avenue.”
Yashpal Sharma, M.D Skyways Air Services Pvt Ltd & Member, DCBA viewed, “There is immense importance of customs clearance process in the international trade. The goods have to undergo customs clearance for their release. Those handling your shipment and customs documentation must be seasoned ones. The role of the customs clearance function in the Import Export process involves the preparation as well as the submission of Import Export documentation. As Customs Clearing Agents, we represent a company before the customs examination and assess the document. We help in the process of payment of duties and releasing of the cargo from customs after the clearance of documents. Large companies like ours ensure export clearance success while sending and receiving goods from different ports. It is important for the companies to give accurate information to your customs broker as this will help the customs broker to perform their task efficiently. We salute PM Modi’s leadership qualities and the pathbreaking initiatives of the government to empower the logistics sector. At DCBA, we have always accepted challenges, and believed in contributing our bit towards “Nation Building“. The ideology of DCBA has been in sync with the vision of the Modi government that aspires to transform India into an “Atmanirbhar Bharat” with incredible initiatives such as “Make in India”, “Skill India” and “Digital India.”
Mukesh C. Hira, Jt. Secretary, DCBA said, “Celebrating 50 years of DCBA is an overwhelming moment for the entire Customs Brokers fraternity of Delhi. Custom Brokers have been playing a critical role as the process of customs clearance requires whole range of documentation ranging from a purchase order, bill of entry, assessment, signed invoice, packing list, bill of lading or delivery order/airway bill etc. One realizes the significant role of Customs Clearance services when one needs support in transporting goods from one destination to another sans any inconvenience. One must fully understand the total process namely the documentation needed, risk factors in the shipment and decision of choosing the right company to handle the logistics, customs, and companies which can thus, make your shipment documents easier. A professional custom broker can make all the difference as they help save one from paying extra duties and customs fees at the ports.”
Umesh Chaturvedi, Managing Committee Member, DCBA, said, “The DCBA wants the focus of the government to be on allocation of the Airlines to the custodian as well as setting a parameter viz a viz the capacity of the custodian to handle the load. In short, key thrust of DCBA has been on introducing trade facilitation measures by the Customs, collaborating with the Customs, govt agencies and all other stakeholders. Our government has done remarkable work in upgrading the existent infrastructure for boosting the economic & tourist development of the state. This includes good quality wide roads, ports, well-developed road network coupled with uninterrupted power supply, and proper road lighting. The DCBA was among the first few organizations that earnestly adopted the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO), a pilot Program of the World Customs Organization (WCO). Over the years, the DCBA has efficiently acted as a bridge between the Exporters- Importers and the Customs Department. The Customs Brokers Licence Regulation (CBLR) that was launched in 1984 is presently conducting the exams digitally unlike the earlier times when they were all done manually. The logistics cost and the overall time of clearance has drastically reduced with passage of time, and this has been a huge accomplishment. The operations of DCBA have switched to the digital mode.”

“Sports Diet” as a Scholarship has been offered for the first time to budding champs from North East states thus marking a new era for Sports in the country.
In an event hosted at the State Banquet Hall in Itanagar, the much awaited first of its kind “8AM Sports Diet Scholarship” was recently launched and awarded to selected budding sporting champs from North East. The “8AM Sports Diet Scholarship” comprises a nutritious breakfast diet from this Olympics to the next Olympics and a one-time monetary Scholarship of Rs10,001/. The Chief Guest of the event was Taba Tedir, Education Minister and Arunachal Olympic Association President. The launch event was a joint initiative of V.R Industries and Helping Hands NGO.
In all, a total of 50 budding sports champs had been chosen to be awarded the “8AM Sports Diet Scholarship”. The 50 chosen sports champs are pursuing sports as their career, and happen to be National/State level medal winners below 20 years of age from different sports category recognized by the Indian Olympic Association. They are the bonafide residents of North Eastern states.
Buoyed by the glory that Indian athletes brought to the nation in the recently concluded Tokyo Olympics, the idea of a “Sports Diet Scholarship” was conceived by Major Vishal Bakshi (VSM), M.D V.R Industries.
The project took wings when Major Bakshi got in touch with First IPS from Arunachal Pradesh Robin Hibu (President Helping Hands NGO) who extended him all possible support in giving shape to this ambitious plan. Major Bakshi is all praise for Robin Hibu for being a great pillar of support in helping him realize his ambitious goal of launching the first of its kind "Sports Diet Scholarship".
Lauding the efforts of Helping Hands and the sponsors, Minister Tedir said, “The state of Arunachal Pradesh has humongous sports potential. The small 17 member state team created a record of sorts in the recently concluded 36th National Games in Ahmedabad, Gujarat when the contingent won seven medals. The need for nutritious food stuffs for players to play well would be solved by this much needed scholarship. Initiatives such as “Sports Diet Scholarship” would play a vital role in transforming Arunachal into a Sports House of India. Our aim should be to make Arunachal Pradesh the National Sports Hub of the country.”
It was quite an uphill task for Helping Hands NGO as they had to first meticulously choose the most promising sports champions from the different North East states and this they did, by working in sync with Indian Olympic Association. The second big challenge before the Helping Hands Team was to ensure the various logistics in ensuring a hassle free delivery of Sports Diet Scholarship to champions from seven sister states of North East as well as the mountain state of Sikkim.
V.R Industries that has been serving the Armed Forces for more than two decades by offering its wide range of breakfast cereals has launched a unique "8AM Sports Diet Scholarship" in sync with Helping Hands NGO for promoting budding sports champions from the eight North Eastern states of the country.
Says Major Vishal Bakshi (VSM), "Launch of “Sports Diet Scholarship” marks a new era for sports in India. The breakfast diet includes Corn Flakes, Muesli, Instant Porridge, Oats, and Trail Mix. There is no dearth of sporting talent in the country, but ironically, the reason why we still trail in mega sporting carnivals like Olympics is because we do not promote healthy balanced diet to match up to the standards of the international athletes. While talent can be God gifted, the same cannot be said for fitness as one needs to toil hard for maintaining a fit n’ fine body. Besides following specific fitness regimes in the daily lifestyle, it is imperative to augment it with a healthy and balanced diet for ensuring a fit and healthy body. Let us remember one thing clearly, “Jo fit hai wo Hit hai” meaning that one who is holistically fit stands more prospects of scaling new peaks. Health being an important aspect of life, both the government and the key stakeholders need to give it top most priority. There can’t be any ambiguity about the fact that a healthy lifestyle can only be maintained by inculcating healthy eating habits.”
Shares IPS Robin Hibu (President of Helping Hands NGO), “North East states have immensely contributed in bringing sporting laurels to the nation. 5-time World Amateur Championship winner MC Mary Kom, Mirabai Chanu and Lovelina Borgohain need no introduction. Helping Hands NGO happens to be one of the largest virtual NGO serving the North East fraternity. The idea of “Sports Diet Scholarship” will surely inspire entrepreneurs and corporates to follow in suit.”

He established his company VRI with a mission to provide healthy food to its customers. A renowned consultant for retail and institutional sales, VRI has been enjoying a three decade harmonious relationship of serving the Armed forces offering its healthy eating products through its Canteens. His never say never die spirit coupled with excellent man management skills won him the coveted VSM Award. He has been relentless in his pursuit of making 8AM a truly global Indian Health Brand. His brand motto is “Jo Fit Hai…..Wo Hit Hai”.
Major Bakshi takes pride in stating that 8AM today is the preferred brand with the Indian Army and the paramilitary forces since the last 20 years and that 8AM sells alongside with the best of International brands in Qatar, UAE & Nepal.
Buoyed by the glory that Indian athletes brought to the nation in the recently concluded Tokyo Olympics, the idea of a “Sports Diet Scholarship” was conceived by Major Vishal Bakshi (VSM), M.D V.R Industries. While the concept of offering scholarships has been in existence since time immemorial, the idea of offering a “Sports Diet” as a “Scholarship” has happened for the first time in the country.
The project took wings when Major Bakshi got in touch with First IPS from Arunachal Pradesh Robin Hibu (President Helping Hands NGO) who extended him all possible support in giving shape to this ambitious plan. Major Bakshi is all praise for Robin Hibu for being a great pillar of support in helping him realize his ambitious goal of launching the first of its kind “Sports Diet Scholarship”.
The 50 chosen sports champs are pursuing sports as their career, and happen to be National/State level medal winners below 20 years of age from different sports category recognized by the Indian Olympic Association. They are the bonafide residents of North Eastern states.
Sharing more on his splendid initiative, Major Bakshi shares, “Launch of “Sports Diet Scholarship” marks a new era for sports in India. Inspired by the current wave in our country about “Sabka Prayas” and innovative initiatives of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, V.R Industries got inspired to contribute their bit towards promoting sports and budding champions in the country. We chose North Eastern states for awarding the first of its kind Sports Diet Scholarship for primarily two reasons, first their abundant sporting talent, and second, to help bring countless of unsung heroes to the fore by giving them the much needed nutritious diet that can make all the difference in the world. North East states have immensely contributed in bringing sporting laurels to the nation. 5-time World Amateur Championship winner MC Mary Kom, Mirabai Chanu and Lovelina Borgohain need no introduction. To begin with, we are offering scholarship for 50 budding sports champs who wish to pursue sports as their career. The 8AM Sports Diet Scholarship comprises a nutritious breakfast diet from this Olympics to the next Olympics and a one-time monetary Scholarship of Rs10,001/. More importantly, 8AM breakfast cereals being all indigenous “Made in India” products, it will help give a big fillip to the “AatmaNirbhar Bharat Campaign”, and thus play a critical role in helping promising youths of the country fulfill their long cherished dreams of excelling at the Olympics. The breakfast diet includes Corn Flakes, Muesli, Instant Porridge, Oats, and Trail Mix. We have been promoting everything that is “Made in India”. We wholeheartedly support the jargon “Make in India- Made for the World” as well as “Vocal for Local”. As an entrepreneur, I firmly believe that we must all contribute our bit towards “Nation Building”. India is on the threshold of becoming a global superpower with initiatives such as “Make in India”, “Skill India” and “Digital India”. Honestly speaking, there is no dearth of sporting talent in the country, but ironically, the reason why we still trail in mega sporting carnivals like Olympics is because we do not promote healthy balanced diet to match up to the standards of the international athletes. There can’t be any ambiguity about the fact that a healthy lifestyle can only be maintained by inculcating healthy eating habits. It is ideal for Sportspersons, Doctors, Armed Forces personnel’s, to remain in the pink of their health.”
As someone who has perpetually been passionate about giving back to the society, Major Bakshi has always been in the forefront when it comes to contributing towards society and humanitarian causes. A die hard philanthropist at heart, and an entrepreneur by profession, he has not only carved a niche for himself, but has been playing a vital role in “Nation Building”.
In times to comes, his idea of “Sports Diet Scholarship” will surely inspire entrepreneurs and corporates to follow in suit.”

Indian community based out of Ireland celebrated Navratri with traditional Garba and Dandiya. Living in Parkside, Dublin 13, Ireland, Indians dressed in colourful ‘chaniya cholis’ and ‘sarees’ played Dandiya as an offering to Goddess Durga. The Indian Kids too fervently indulged in all the festive revelry, and showed keen interest in knowing more about the rich culture and rituals of their origin Country. Being far away from their motherland, Indians settled in Ireland always nurtured the dream of celebrating their cultural festivals with all pomp and show.
Keen to fulfill their long cherished dream, the Ireland based Indian community decided to celebrate the holy festival of Navratris with the traditional Garba and the Dandiya this year. The traditional Garba dance is performed generally during the evenings of the nine-day-long festival, and it culminates on Dussehra.
Says Ireland based Supriya Singh, a media personality, “People the world over, have immense faith on the Mother Divine. Not everyone can visit her Temple sans a divine call or a Bulaawa. Mata Temples have always been a beacon of faith and fulfillment to thousands of devotees from all over the world. Indulgence in any festive celebrations not only makes us feel home and rejuvenated, but also plays a pivotal role in unifying the Indian Community based out of Ireland.”
