By Bipin Sharma

The holy city of Varanasi located on the banks of river Ganga, was witness to a glorious evening on September 27’ 2021 as Confluence, a Delhi based NGO celebrated Bharat Mahotsav & International Tourism Day at the Rudraksha International Cooperation & Convention Centre (RICC). The Minister of State in the Government of Uttar Pradesh Dr Neelkanth Tiwari was the Chief Guest of the event that was duly graced by a galaxy of luminaries from varied walks of life.

In sync with the Government’s “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” to commemorate 75 years of Progressive India and the glorious history of it’s people, culture and achievements, Confluence hosted “Bharat Mahotsav” (Festival of One India to unravel the effervescence of Indian Crafts & Culture).

With the objective of hailing and promoting the spirit of “Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat”, the event had myriad components comprising Bharat Gaurav Samman (Award for Leadership & Excellence in different categories, Swadeshi Manch (Cultural extravaganza), Swadeshi Connect (B2B Meeting) followed by Swadeshi Parade (Fashion Show).

The milestones achieved by the Tourism Industry were enumerated during the course of the event. Ever since it came into existence in 2017, Confluence has been hosting events in different nooks and corners of the globe to propagate the idea of New India, and Self Reliant India (Atmanirbhar Bharat). The hallmark of their events has been its thrust to empower the different sections of the society especially the talented and the unsung heroes.

Founder & Chairperson of Confluence Smita Shrivastav

Founder & Chairperson of Confluence Smita Shrivastav shared, “Confluence as the name suggests, is a unification of skills, talents and leadership. Established in August 2017 as a “Make In India” venture, the concept of Confluence is in consonance with the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Narender Modi to promote the indigenous Khadi & the Handloom Industry, in the process empowering Women from various rural villages. We have gone an extra mile to provide a robust platform to our artisans, weavers and craftsmen so as to help them present their work to the global market. Our initiative aims to preserve and cherish the rich ancient heritage of India in art and culture. This will help industries establish their manufacturing bases in India as well as create employment in India. Industries tend to develop a support ecosystem around them, thus empowering small businesses. With the Confluence foraying into its fifth edition in Varanasi, we are sure that the global movement of Bharat Mahotsav will play a vital role in fostering business excellence, cultural amalgamation and promoting everything that is “Made in India”. We wholeheartedly support PM’s slogan “Make in India- Made for the World” as well as “Vocal for Local”.”

Minister of State for Tourism, Culture & Religious Affairs in the UP Govt. Dr Neelkanth Tiwari

Speaking on the occasion, Minister of State for Tourism, Culture & Religious Affairs in the UP Govt. Dr Neelkanth Tiwari said, “Our government has done remarkable work in upgrading the existent infrastructure for boosting the economic & tourist development of the state. This includes good quality wide roads, well-developed road network coupled with uninterrupted power supply, a proper drainage system and proper road lighting. Beautification of the Ganga Ghats, Namame Ganga Project, Construction of new Expressways, and the fast paced construction of Kashi Vishwanath Corridor signify the dawn of a new era of development for the state of Uttar Pradesh that we wish to transform into “Uttam Pradesh” in times to come. We are pledged to empowering the women of the state and the impoverished segments of the society. We have constructed numerous toilets on a war footing note as part of our “Clean India Mission”. This has led to a massive decline in the school dropout ratio of Girls.  Undoubtedly, we regard this as one of our key accomplishments. Tourism has incessantly played a pivotal role in not just bridging gaps, but also contributed in boosting the economy of a nation, and in improving the cultural- business ties between two nations. India is known the world over for its “Atithi Devo Bhava” (treating Guests like God), and we are poised to transform our great nation into one of the most ideal tourist as well as investment friendly destination.”

Eminent hotelier and Governing Council of Confluence, Kanwarjeet Singh Kochhar pointed, “Confluence has carved a niche for itself in the last 5 years of its existence having hosted mega events in London, UK (2018 & 2019) ensued by Dubai, UAE in 2021. Varanasi, the abode of Kashi Vishwanath Temple and the mesmerizing Ganga Ghats was our unanimous choice of venue for hosting this year’s edition of Bharat Mahotsav. Ghats in Varanasi with their mythological links, are riverfront steps leading to the banks of the River Ganges. Varanasi, regarded as the “Cultural Capital of India” is known the world over for being a Centre for Education, Culture and Health from the Vedic era, in addition to being a key Industrial Centre for Handicrafts from the Silk Route era. The prime objective behind hosting Bharat Mahotsav event was to provide impetus to the Indian Fashion Industry, Khadi, Handloom & Tribal products, Tourism, Culture and Trade, Women Empowerment, in addition to honouring achievers who had excelled in their respective fields.”

Parveen Rani, Brand Ambassador of Confluence informed, “The Bharat Mahotsav event hosted in Varanasi is a prelude to series of events planned in different parts of the world. Following the overwhelming response to our Varanasi event, our next big stopover will be in Switzerland, followed by UK and USA. At Confluence, we have always accepted challenges, and believed in contributing our bit towards “Nation Building”. From the ramparts of the Red Fort, the PM gave a clarion call this year to the nation of 1.3 billion for “Sabka Prayaas” for helping realize the dream of “New India”. The ideology of Confluence has been in sync with the vision of the Modi government that aspires to transform India into “Atmanirbhar Bharat” with its pathbreaking initiatives namely “Make in India”, “Skill India” and “Digital India”.”

Notable among the distinguished personalities that graced the occasion included the likes of Sdr. Kanwarjeet Singh Kochhar (CMD Taurus Sarovar Portico Hotel & Governing Council of Confluence), Mahender Sinh C. Jadeja (International Business Consultant & Social Activist), Dr Sangeeta Yadav (Member of Creative Society, United Kingdom), Dr Rita Jairath (Bodybuilder, Fitness Guru & Writer), Vijay Jolly (President Delhi Study Group & Former MLA), Mickey Keki Mehta (Health & Wellness Guru), Manoj Jaiswal (Prism Events), Parveen Rani (Educationist from UK & Founder of Hindi Shiksha), Guruji Kumaran Swami (Visionary & Spiritual Leader), Saddguru Shri Anand Jauhari (Spiritual Guru), Dharampal Chaudhary (Managing Director of Rite Group), Nishit Kumar Ujjwal (IPS), Alok & Shalu Gera, Sanjeev Dev Malik, DK Tyagi (Founder of Delhi Town Ltd. London), Jagruti Mehta Sanghavi (Fashion Fabric Designer), Paramjeet Kaur, Anupam Agarwal & Gopi Shah (Fashion Designer).

The Global movement of Bharat Mahotsav @ Varanasi was successful in promoting the Best of India on the global forum, thus paving the way for the opening of new frontiers for all those associated with the event.

“Corona Samaritans” are the Pride of the Nation: Singer Pankaj Laadla

Pankaj Laadla- Devotional Singer

By Bipin Sharma

An Ardent devotee of Goddess Kalka, Pankaj Laadla has carved a niche for himself as a Devotional Singer. A native of West Bengal, he has been staying in the National Capital Delhi ever since his family migrated from Kolkata to New Delhi some two decades ago.

As a young boy, he was enchanted when he heard singers singing devotional renditions in praise of the Divine Goddess.

As luck would have it, his natural leaning towards devotional music coupled with an inner calling led him to singing devotional songs in the holy premises of Kalkaji Temple and other places. And, thus began a never ending tryst with devotional singing.

The outbreak of the Corona Pandemic and the subsequent imposition of the lockdown brought life to a grinding halt. All during the lockdown phase, Pankaj Laadla remained in touch with his FB friends and followers. Through his music, he played the role of a good Samaritan by urging them to exercise restraint and caution in the times of the Corona Pandemic.

Pankaj Laadla

Sharing more on the same, Pankaj Laadla says, “Music is a great medium to connect with the masses and there is always the privilege of conveying relevant messages to the society. During the Lockdown phase, when the entire humanity barring the Corona Warriors were all compelled to stay confined with the four walls of their homes, staying connected through the social and the digital media was the most fascinating option. Being no exception, I made the optimum use to make appeals to my followers and friends through Facebook, Instagram and Streamyard App to adhere to all the norms of the social distancing. It was vital to spread positivity and a sense of optimism to people all around as there was a palpable anxiety and panic among masses owing to Corona virus. Corona Pandemic has taught Mankind numerous lessons, and it is imperative on the part of every citizen to ensure that we now accord more importance to boosting our immunity and also begin valuing the precious life given to us by Almighty. It is equally important for us to realize that ‘Humanity’ is the real need of the hour, and everything else is secondary. It was heartening to see countless people turning into “Corona Samaritans” during the lockdown phase when they went their extra mile to fulfill the basic needs of the impoverished and the underprivileged segments of the society. “Corona Samaritans” deserve all round applaud for their painstaking initiatives in times of uncertainty and mayhem during the lockdown phase. They are truly the Pride of the entire Nation. Even when we manage to vanquish Corona from our lives, we should not stop playing the role of a good Samaritan as it should become an integral component of our lives, and not merely a one time exercise. Also, while the lockdown may have forced all of us to maintain physical distancing, it no way implies that we should not take this opportunity to consolidate our bonds with our fellow neighbours, friends and relatives thought various social and digital mediums. As a unified team, we can effectively and efficiently hand a crushing defeat to any future calamity or untoward eventuality. Also, while we may have begun unlocking the lockdown from June onwards, and places of worship have been opened for the general public, citizens need to tread with lot of caution and can’t afford to be complacent as the threat of Corona Pandemic still looms large on our heads.”

Yoga has made India a universally accepted VishwGuru

Puja Shree- Yoga Expert

By Puja Shree

Since 2015, the world has been celebrating International Yoga Day with all enthusiasm and devotion, and surely the credit goes to our great nation India that made the world hail and acknowledge the timeless power of Yoga.

In his address in the 69th session of the General Assembly in United Nations in the year 2014, Prime Minister Modi spoke at length about the universal appeal and widespread benefits of Yoga. and apprised the member states about how embracing Yoga could pave the way for the world citizenry to lead a more healthy and holistic life. PM Modi described Yoga as an invaluable gift from our ancient tradition, and how it embodied unity of mind and body, thought and action … a holistic approach that is valuable to our health and our well-being. Further Modi had described Yoga as not just an exercise, but more importantly, as a way to discovering the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature.

Such impactful was PM Modi’s articulation of ‘Yoga’ that as many as 175 member states gave a resounding nod to according ‘Yoga’ an international status. Subsequently, the United Nations made the official announcement of celebrating International Yoga Day (IYD) on 21st June every year, and subsequently since year 2015, the world began observing 21st June as “International Yoga Day”. The key aim behind celebrating 21st June as International Yoga Day is to globally spread awareness of the widespread benefits of practicing yoga.

Mindful of the Corona Pandemic that took Mankind by a storm this year, the United Nations decided to keep the theme of the IYD as “Yoga for Health- Yoga at Home”. The UN theme of IYD says it all that in the light of the Pandemic when we are required to adhere to all the norms of the social distancing, all the yoga practitioners need to practice Yoga within the confines of their home and ofcourse make the optimum use of the online yoga resources. Indubitably, Yoga is one of the most powerful tools to coping with the inevitable stress component of day to day lives, and to maintain a perfect state of physical well-being. The student fraternity in particular, can practice myriad yoga poses sans any risk and attain the same benefits that adults do. Some of the benefits being enhanced flexibility and fitness, mindfulness, rejuvenation and relaxation.

It is a matter of immense pride for all Indians that the ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice of Yoga finds it origin in India. The word ‘yoga’ derives from Sanskrit and basically means to join or to unite, symbolizing the union of body and consciousness. Yoga nowadays is practiced in plethora of forms around the world and with time advent, has gained more popularity and acceptance.

The practice of yoga dates back to the Pre-Vedic Indus Valley era around 3000 BCE. Yoga finds a mention in the Rigveda, as well as in the Upanishads. The credit goes to Indian Yoga Gurus for introducing Yoga to the Western world.

Yoga is all about positivity, and spreading positivity through positive aura.

Our body makes connections with the mind, and together, the mind and the body make connections with the soul, and then going further, the soul makes connection with the Supreme Force, the God.

Similarly, when there is a global level connect between different nations, it plays a pivotal role in bridging gaps and eventually paves the way towards exploring solutions to most complex of problems.

In these trying times of Corona Pandemic, there are many self styled passionate volunteers who have played a marvellous role in acting as good Samaritans by reaching out to those in need of basic living amenities like food, medicines and sanitizers.

The Time tested Yoga practices have emerged as not only one of the best stress buster remedies this Corona, but have simultaneously played a vital role in inspiring people to be good human beings by caring for those in suffering, need and pain. Yoga has a key role in Nation Building.

The role of Yoga in helping us deal with stress has indeed been very critical especially during the time when life has literally come to a grinding halt all of a sudden.

While we may be physically apart from each other, our bonds have remained intact as most of us have remained in touch with our loved ones and friends through the digital media

Yoga has the remarkable power to help people connect with each other as well as with your own self. Life today is extremely stressful owing to stringent deadlines and the unending hullabaloo that has become an integral part of our existence. As a result, more and more people are falling prey to life threatening ailments and other health hazards. Ask experts, and they will suggest you umpteen medications. I, for one, have always adhered to basic fitness regimes and a healthy lifestyle. It is a well acknowledged fact that most of the simple or complicated ailments are related to the sedentary and lethargic lifestyles. The benefits of age old practices such as morning or evening walking are innumerable, and should never be overlooked. The WHO definition of Health is, “a state of positive physical, mental and social well being, and not merely absence of disease”. I strongly believe it is time for the world citizenry to make Yoga an integral component of their day to day lives for helping us lead a more holistic, stress free lifestyle!!

By Manali Kandhway (President of Enactus LSR)

Mental Health, termed as the “new Global Pandemic”, often finds professional help inaccessible, due to the high price associated with it.

This was expanded to include alternative therapies like art, music and dance, through workshops such as “Mandala Art”, “Sound Healing”, “De- Stress with Dance Movement”, etc. The Project took pride in hosting sessions for the LGBTQ+ community as well.

Ruhani also collaborated with ‘Haiyya’, to further the idea of the “Resilience Circle”.

With the aim of purpose of creating emotional bonding and a sense of togetherness, there is a group of 8-9 people who connect together at a safe space for venting out their pent up emotions to a group of completely unknown individuals, sans any fear of judgement, or any other dire consequence.

Dr Aditya’s “WeCare” initiative winning hearts all over

Dr Aditya Prakash Bhardwaj- The Man on a Humanitarian Mission

By Bipin Sharma

“A friend in need is a friend is indeed” goes the ageless adage, and a classic instance of this has been Dr Aditya Prakash Bhardwaj (IRS). Posted as Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax in Faridabad, he has made humanity proud with his selfless acts of nobility.

Ever since the Lockdown owing to Corona Pandemic was announced and enforced in specific, Dr Aditya has been on ground zero, playing the role of a Samaritan since day one.

Taking immediate cognizance of the gravity of the Corona Pandemic, Dr Aditya and his team of “Never say never die Crusaders” got going for the sake of humanity from the word ‘go’.

Working in sync with a team of 50 like minded passionate and committed individuals all of whom have been Achievers in their respective fields, they have been instrumental in serving food kits to close to 6 lakh people all along the Gurgaon-Faridabad stretch near the Aravalli range and the nearby areas.

Running a community kitchen initiative under the aegis of “WeCare”, Dr Aditya’s team of relentless volunteers have provided meals to the needy ones most of them being the migrant labourers, cart pullers, and the slum dwellers.

“WeCare” team has also played a pivotal role in spreading awareness among masses about the need to adhere to all the norms of the social distancing.

Equally commendable has been the noteworthy initiative undertaken by Dr Aditya and his wife Aastha in distributing self innovated “Mom Kits” that include sanitation items along with protein rich food and milk for the pregnant women, the lactating mothers and kids.

All along the lockdown period, Dr Aditya and his team have also been feeding bread, chapatis and bananas to cows and the street dogs on a regular basis.

“WeCare” team members undertook the noble initiative of hanging as many as 200 water buckets on different trees to quench the thirst of monkeys and birds in the nearby area. With rising mercury and more water requirement, the buckets are being regularly replenished with water.

Born and brought up in a small village named Narnaul in Haryana, Dr Aditya also happens to be a well qualified physician having completed his MBBS from PGIMS, Rohtak. Subsequently, he sat for the UPSC examinations, and opted for the prestigious IRS in 2015.

Dr Aditya Prakash Bhardwaj- The Relentless Crusader

Sharing more on the same, Dr Aditya says, “The motto of “WeCare” from its inception has been to ensure that no one goes to sleep hungry be it humans or animals. Our team of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers have been working on a war footing note to serve meals to the poor and the needy ones, besides also providing rotis, bananas, breads and water to monkeys, dogs, cows and birds. While we may have unlocked the Lockdown, many people remain hard pressed to make both ends meet as they are without livelihood. Considering this grim veracity, “WeCare” will continue its mission of providing meals to all such people till normalcy is restored back in their lives. Having done my initial years of schooling from a government school, I was not only well versed with the lacunas and the shortfalls, but more importantly nurtured a keen desire to offer my suggestions for the much needed improvisations. I feel truly blessed that in the last three years of my posting in Faridabad, I have made the most optimum use of my leisure time during the weekends by spending quality time with the students of various corporation schools situated in the interiors of Faridabad. I have apprised students of the various competitive exams like the UPSC, MBBS, MBA, Law, Engineering etc, and how they could register themselves for the examinations. There is enormous hidden talent lying untapped in various corporation schools of Faridabad. Thus quite naturally, my emphasis has throughout been to groom the student fraternity of these schools so that their talent can be channelized in a more constructive direction for their self growth and Nation Building on the whole.”

Dr Aditya Bhardwaj is a “Man on a Mission” as he is not just a “Hunger Warrior”, but also a Torch Bearer for the young minds ! Way to go !!
