The holy city of Varanasi located on the banks of river Ganga, was witness to a glorious evening on September 27’ 2021 as Confluence, a Delhi based NGO celebrated Bharat Mahotsav & International Tourism Day at the Rudraksha International Cooperation & Convention Centre (RICC). The Minister of State in the Government of Uttar Pradesh Dr Neelkanth Tiwari was the Chief Guest of the event that was duly graced by a galaxy of luminaries from varied walks of life.
In sync with the Government’s “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” to commemorate 75 years of Progressive India and the glorious history of it’s people, culture and achievements, Confluence hosted “Bharat Mahotsav” (Festival of One India to unravel the effervescence of Indian Crafts & Culture).

With the objective of hailing and promoting the spirit of “Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat”, the event had myriad components comprising Bharat Gaurav Samman (Award for Leadership & Excellence in different categories, Swadeshi Manch (Cultural extravaganza), Swadeshi Connect (B2B Meeting) followed by Swadeshi Parade (Fashion Show).
The milestones achieved by the Tourism Industry were enumerated during the course of the event. Ever since it came into existence in 2017, Confluence has been hosting events in different nooks and corners of the globe to propagate the idea of New India, and Self Reliant India (Atmanirbhar Bharat). The hallmark of their events has been its thrust to empower the different sections of the society especially the talented and the unsung heroes.

Founder & Chairperson of Confluence Smita Shrivastav shared, “Confluence as the name suggests, is a unification of skills, talents and leadership. Established in August 2017 as a “Make In India” venture, the concept of Confluence is in consonance with the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Narender Modi to promote the indigenous Khadi & the Handloom Industry, in the process empowering Women from various rural villages. We have gone an extra mile to provide a robust platform to our artisans, weavers and craftsmen so as to help them present their work to the global market. Our initiative aims to preserve and cherish the rich ancient heritage of India in art and culture. This will help industries establish their manufacturing bases in India as well as create employment in India. Industries tend to develop a support ecosystem around them, thus empowering small businesses. With the Confluence foraying into its fifth edition in Varanasi, we are sure that the global movement of Bharat Mahotsav will play a vital role in fostering business excellence, cultural amalgamation and promoting everything that is “Made in India”. We wholeheartedly support PM’s slogan “Make in India- Made for the World” as well as “Vocal for Local”.”

Speaking on the occasion, Minister of State for Tourism, Culture & Religious Affairs in the UP Govt. Dr Neelkanth Tiwari said, “Our government has done remarkable work in upgrading the existent infrastructure for boosting the economic & tourist development of the state. This includes good quality wide roads, well-developed road network coupled with uninterrupted power supply, a proper drainage system and proper road lighting. Beautification of the Ganga Ghats, Namame Ganga Project, Construction of new Expressways, and the fast paced construction of Kashi Vishwanath Corridor signify the dawn of a new era of development for the state of Uttar Pradesh that we wish to transform into “Uttam Pradesh” in times to come. We are pledged to empowering the women of the state and the impoverished segments of the society. We have constructed numerous toilets on a war footing note as part of our “Clean India Mission”. This has led to a massive decline in the school dropout ratio of Girls. Undoubtedly, we regard this as one of our key accomplishments. Tourism has incessantly played a pivotal role in not just bridging gaps, but also contributed in boosting the economy of a nation, and in improving the cultural- business ties between two nations. India is known the world over for its “Atithi Devo Bhava” (treating Guests like God), and we are poised to transform our great nation into one of the most ideal tourist as well as investment friendly destination.”

Eminent hotelier and Governing Council of Confluence, Kanwarjeet Singh Kochhar pointed, “Confluence has carved a niche for itself in the last 5 years of its existence having hosted mega events in London, UK (2018 & 2019) ensued by Dubai, UAE in 2021. Varanasi, the abode of Kashi Vishwanath Temple and the mesmerizing Ganga Ghats was our unanimous choice of venue for hosting this year’s edition of Bharat Mahotsav. Ghats in Varanasi with their mythological links, are riverfront steps leading to the banks of the River Ganges. Varanasi, regarded as the “Cultural Capital of India” is known the world over for being a Centre for Education, Culture and Health from the Vedic era, in addition to being a key Industrial Centre for Handicrafts from the Silk Route era. The prime objective behind hosting Bharat Mahotsav event was to provide impetus to the Indian Fashion Industry, Khadi, Handloom & Tribal products, Tourism, Culture and Trade, Women Empowerment, in addition to honouring achievers who had excelled in their respective fields.”

Parveen Rani, Brand Ambassador of Confluence informed, “The Bharat Mahotsav event hosted in Varanasi is a prelude to series of events planned in different parts of the world. Following the overwhelming response to our Varanasi event, our next big stopover will be in Switzerland, followed by UK and USA. At Confluence, we have always accepted challenges, and believed in contributing our bit towards “Nation Building”. From the ramparts of the Red Fort, the PM gave a clarion call this year to the nation of 1.3 billion for “Sabka Prayaas” for helping realize the dream of “New India”. The ideology of Confluence has been in sync with the vision of the Modi government that aspires to transform India into “Atmanirbhar Bharat” with its pathbreaking initiatives namely “Make in India”, “Skill India” and “Digital India”.”

Notable among the distinguished personalities that graced the occasion included the likes of Sdr. Kanwarjeet Singh Kochhar (CMD Taurus Sarovar Portico Hotel & Governing Council of Confluence), Mahender Sinh C.
